The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapoh has told Parliament that, about eighty percent (80%) of seven million trees which were planted last year during the national tree planting exercise have survived and doing well.
He said, the maiden edition of the Green Ghana Day, June 11, 2021, led by the President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and supported by all Ghanaians and persons living in Ghana, including, Mr. Speaker and Members of this august House, over seven million (7,000,000) trees were planted across the country, which exceeded the original target of five million trees (5,000,000) for the exercise.
Mr. Abu Jinapoh did indicate that, field monitoring assessment, conducted by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and the Forestry Commission, proves that about eighty percent (80%) of these trees have survived, and are doing very well.
He concluded by quoting that, government used a total of Twelve Million, Seven Hundred and Ninety Six Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifteen Ghana cedis (Gh12,796,615.00) for the 2021 national tree planting exercise.
The comments of the minister came up when the MP for Tempane, Mrs Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba asked the minister for lands and natural resources the state of the five million (5,000,000) trees planted on 11 June, 2021 and the cost involved.
