The attention of the Ejura Traditional Council in the Ashanti Region has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous Fulani herdsmen operating in the area
These Fulani herdsmen according to reports from farmers in our jurisdiction have destroyed the farm produce of hundreds of farmers in over 25 communities within the traditional area.
Other worrying reports also indicate that these nomadic herdsmen have been robbing and terrorizing farmers and residents with guns, a situation we the Traditional Authorities have reported to security Agencies in the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality for further investigation since chiefs don’t have the capacity to probe and make any arrest if indeed the situation is so.
As part of efforts to understand the situation and proffer pragmatic solutions to the problem, the traditional council tasked the Ejura Land Management Committee to visit the affected communities and come out with their findings.
Preliminary investigations by the committee chaired by Oheneba Owusu Bekoe Maawerehene of Ejura Traditional Council indeed pointed to the fact that some Fulani herdsmen have invaded some communities in Ejura causing major problems
As traditional authorities, we condemn the presence of these Fulani herdsmen in no uncertain terms and state categorically clear that these herdsmen are operating on our lands illegally.
To this end, the Traditional Council under the leadership of Barima Osei Hwedie II has given all nomadic herdsmen in the area a two-week ultimatum to either provide legal documentation of the stay in the area or pack out and go to wherever they came from.
The traditional council on Thursday February 17, 2022, also met with all security heads in the municipality and they have assured us of measures to protect lives in properties.
We assure farmers that the Traditional Council will do everything possible to get these nomadic herdsmen out of their farms.
We are however calling on the Ashanti Region Coordinating Council and the regional Security agencies to assist their compatriots in Ejura since Ejura is one of the biggest food baskets in the country.
