EMPLOYMENT INTO SECURITY SERVICES: RECRUITMENT FOR SECURITY SERVICES WILL BE ADVERTISED, INTERIOR MINISTER

The Majority and Minority in Parliament, together with the Interior Minister, Mr. Henry Quartey, have organized a joint press conference to explain the recruitment process for the security agencies for the 2024 season.
This follows a consensus reached between the majority and minority caucuses of Parliament after a closed session with the Minister of Interior.
Mr. Henry Quartey has thus announced his decision to advertise the recruitment of individuals who applied online for enlistment in the security services in 2021 and 2022.
The Minority had threatened to summon the Minister over allegations of secret recruitment of a backlog of 11,000 applicants into the security services.
Speaking to journalists after meeting with the lawmakers on the matter in Parliament, the minister said, “The recruitment exercises for the security agencies under the Ministry of Interior will be advertised with a clause for those who went online to apply in 2021 and 2022. And for some reason, have still not been able to go through the process.
Mr. Henry Quartey was quick to add that no money must be paid for the filling of forms. However, the security agencies and the government have no control over medical fees. As a private citizen, individuals have to pay for their medical fees.

On his part, the minority leader in Parliament said he was satisfied with the outcome of their meeting and hoped things would work as planned. He added that politicization of the security services is very serious, as those are the institutions that protect everyone in the country.

Before this meeting, the Minority Caucus in Parliament alleged that the government was making recruitment into the security services, but the Interior Minister refuted the allegations by the Minority in Parliament. He added that, even though there were plans for recruitment, the target for the said recruitment were persons who had previously applied for jobs in the security and intelligence agencies but were not selected and are still desirous of being recruited.
