The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has revealed that Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, widely known as Shatta Wale, has failed to provide credible proof of ownership or lawful acquisition of a Lamborghini Urus found in his possession.
In an official statement released on Thursday, August 21, EOCO noted that Shatta Wale claimed he bought the luxury vehicle “from the street,” stating that the transaction may have involved an individual named “ZAK” who allegedly reached out to him via WhatsApp.
However, the musician reportedly admitted that he does not know the true identity of the seller and no longer has access to the WhatsApp contact used during the exchange.
EOCO further stated that Shatta Wale was unable to produce any formal documentation to support his claim of ownership—such as a purchase receipt or a vehicle transfer agreement. The only paperwork in his possession was a customs declaration form bearing the name Nana Kwabena Amuah, an individual currently serving a prison sentence.
In response to his detention, a crowd of Shatta Wale’s fans gathered at EOCO’s offices, demanding his immediate release.
The musician has since been granted bail set at GHS10 million with two sureties. EOCO officials clarified that his release will depend on satisfying all legal conditions, including issues relating to tax compliance.
Shatta Wale’s media manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah, popularly known as Sammy Flex, shared a video update confirming that the artiste’s legal team and management are actively working to meet the bail requirements. He assured fans that every effort is being made to secure Shatta Wale’s release.
