A huge inferno on Wednesday engulfed some parts of the Kwame Nkrumah interchange area, damaging properties and goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
The wooden settlement along the railway line from Accra, popularly called ECOMOG, was the epicentre of the fire outbreak, which took several hours for the Ghana National Fire Service to extinguish.
Eyewitnesses say the fire started around 5:00 pm.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, as investigations were still underway at the time of reporting.
Eyewitnesses say over 100 stalls and structures were destroyed at the location, which is usually occupied by squatters.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service on Facebook, due to their professionalism, they succeeded in preventing any civilian or firefighter casualties in the process.
They added that, despite damage to some wooden structures and containers, a lot of other structures, together with their contents and high-tension poles, were salvaged, thereby ensuring the safeguard of electrical power supply.
