Former Black Stars goalkeeper Frederick Asare has officially joined South African Premier League newcomers Durban City FC on a free transfer ahead of the 2025–26 season.
The 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the club after successfully completing his medical examination, finalizing his move. Durban City FC confirmed the signing in an official statement, saying:
“Durban City FC is proud to welcome Ghanaian international goalkeeper Fredrick Asare to the club for the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership Season! Citizens, let’s welcome Fredrick.”
Asare departs Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko following the expiration of his three-year contract, which began after joining from Accra Lions as a free agent in 2022.
Though he received his first call-up to the Ghana senior national team last year, Asare is yet to make his debut. His absence from recent Black Stars squads has been attributed to limited playing time at club level. With this new chapter in South Africa’s top flight, Asare will be aiming to impress and work his way back into national team contention.
