President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cut sod for the construction of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) Technical Training Centre at the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), Tarkwa.
The Center will serve as a hub for excellence in mining-related education, research, and innovation, equipping the youth with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in this critical sector
and underscoring the government’s commitment to developing a robust and sustainable mining industry.
The MIIF, a sovereign minerals fund mandated by the Minerals Income Investment Fund Act, 978, was established to maximize the value of dividend and royalties income accruing to the Republic of Ghana.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, President Akufo-Addo detailed the importance of the country owning its mining industry, hence the deliberate plan by the government to make Ghanaians owners of mining companies in the country. The President stated that the centre serves as the government’s
commitment to developing a robust education, especially in mining research and innovation.
The centre will have a 500-seater theater to aid the attached museum’s activities.
The expectations of the President and the MIIF executive are for the construction of the centre to be completed within 8 months, to make Ghana a true player when it comes to the mineral sector
within Africa and beyond.
