The Ghana Wheelchair team led by the President Mr. Osei Mensa paid a courtesy call on former Youth and Sports Minister Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah yesterday in parliament. This was to officially present the trophies they won at the just-ended Wheelchair Softball friendly match between Nigeria and Ghana.
The Federation president expressed his gratitude to Hon Asiamah for being supportive of them when he was Minister for Youth and Sports.
Hon Asiamah took the opportunity to thank the team for recognizing his efforts, and he encouraged them to continue pushing for success.
“Disability is not inability, and those of you who strive to achieve anything you dream of can achieve it,” Hon Asiamah said.
In the wheelchair softball friendly held over the weekend at the National Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria was defeated 4-3 by the Ghanaian team.
With the victory, Ghana qualifies for the World Series in August.
The five-inning friendly match, in which the Nigerian team started off strongly, saw the Ghanaian team come from three runs down to outclass their hosts.
At the end of the match, Samuel Babin and Bah Frimpong of Ghana won the Outstanding Banter and Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, respectively.
Lateef Jimoh and Razaq Bankole of Nigeria won the Outstanding Pitcher and Excellent Fielder awards, respectively.
