The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has revealed that Ghana will be self-reliant in the production of organic Fertilisers locally to bridge the gap in the shortage.

According to him, the local production of organic fertilizers is encouraging thus his belief that there will be sufficient organic fertilizers for farmers to purchase.

He said this when he paid a working visit to the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant Limited under the Jospong Group of Companies to inspect the ongoing Organic fertilizer production to augment the shortage in the country.

The visit forms part of the Minister’s working tour of some selected regions in the country to inspect fertilizer production and allege shortage of foodstuff.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto noted that, after the inspection of the various fertilizer production companies, he is optimistic that, the companies with Jospong leading the way will be able to supply enough fertilizers in the next two years for farmers to buy from.

Also the Business, Development and Communications Manager for the  Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant, Eugene Amo Asamoah said they are ready to support farmers with Organic fertilizers in Ghana.

He stressed that his outfit is put measures in place to produce 9,000 bags of compost in a few months but currently, they are producing 3,000 bags of organic fertilizers in a day.

He called for government support to aid the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant to produce more organic fertilizers.
