GHANA’S 67TH INDEPENDENCE DAY: WEDNESDAY, 6TH MARCH IS A PUBLIC HOLIDAY, THE MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR DISCLOSES

The Ministry of the Interior has officially announced that Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, will be a statutory public holiday nationwide in commemoration of Independence Day.
In a statement released on March 1, 2023, the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey, stressed the significance of this day in Ghana’s history and called upon all citizens to observe it accordingly.
Independence Day, the reward for decades of struggle and agitations for the liberation of Ghana, was anchored to success by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on March 6th, 1957.
It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by past generations to secure Ghana’s freedom and sovereignty.
As such, the public is encouraged to participate in various events and activities to celebrate this momentous occasion. From flag-raising ceremonies to cultural performances, citizens are urged to embrace the spirit of patriotism and unity that Independence Day represents.
Businesses, schools, and government offices are expected to remain closed on March 6th to allow citizens to participate fully in the festivities and reflect on Ghana’s journey towards self-determination.
The Head of State of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, President Alassane Ouattara, will be the Special Guest of Honor for Ghana’s 67th Independence Day parade, which will be held at the Youth Resource Centre (Koforidua Sports Stadium) in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
Joining him will be 120 Ambassadors and High Commissioners from various countries, as well as Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament and the 275 Members of Parliament.
This celebration will also hold significance for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as it will be his last Independence Day celebration as a sitting Head of State before concluding his two-term presidency on January 7, 2025.
Since 2018, Independence Day celebrations have been marked in various regional capitals after President Akufo-Addo introduced them on a rotational basis to let every part of the country feel part of the national day festivities.
