Government is on track to prosecute offenders of the old government- Oppong Nkrumah

Minister for Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed that 21 former appointees of the NDC administration are being prosecuted for various act of corruption.

He mentioned the culprits as former CEO of COCOBOD, former MASLOC CEO, former SSNIT Boss as well as former NCA Boss.

Speaking on OmanFM, Kojo Opppong Nkrumah said government is doing everything to fight corruption and urged Ghanaians to have faith in the government to tackle corruption.

The Information Minister explained that, government intends to reduce the cost of electricity hence the Finance Ministry’s decision to meet with the Independent Power Producers and renegotiate the take-or-pay contracts signed under the NDC. The renegotiation meeting with the IPPs started on Monday, 26 August 2019.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah also revealed that as a result of take-or-pay agreement government has paid GHC2 billion for unused power.

He said, the renegotiation of the agreement will bring relief to Ghanaians because the current agreement is too expensive.

He also questioned the intention of Mahama administration in contracting for power plants whose capacity exceeds Ghana’s maximum capacity.
