The Government of Ghana is reviewing the protocols regarding small scale mining in the country.
Tentative measures however have been put in place to regulate the activities of small scale mining until the blueprint to regulate the industry is ready. Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor who made this know in Kumasi noted that all the measures being put in place is ensure the effective utilization of the Country’s natural resources in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
He said the REGSEC meeting in Kumasi was to fashion out plans to deal with activities of illegal mining which is part of tentative measures whilst awaiting for the blueprint.
On the National Consultative forum announced by the President during the State of the Nation’s Address took discuss the effective use of the Country’s natural resources, Mr Jinapor said a Committee has been set to plan the forum.
He noted that this Committee will ensure that proper protocols regarding mining are observed before mining.
He reiterated that President Akufo Addo is not against mining but it should be done in regulated manner and within the country’s legal regime.
