GT Bank Marks World Autism Day from Awareness to Action

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reiterated its commitment to improving care for children with autism by empowering community health professionals to play a more active role in their well-being.

Speaking in an interview with the Media , the Director of Family Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Kennedy Brightson, revealed that the Service is rolling out measures to equip nurses and midwives especially those stationed in local communities with the necessary skills and knowledge to assist families caring for children with autism.

According to him, the initiative is a direct response to the growing number of caregivers who have been calling on government and relevant institutions for support in managing autism-related needs.

Dr. Brightson noted that while caring for children with autism has traditionally fallen on families alone, the GHS is stepping up to share that responsibility through a community-based approach.

Also speaking to kencity Media Mrs. Agnes Owusu-Afram,the Divisional Head of Corporate Communications and Experience at GT Bank encouraged parents and teachers to provide care and attention to children with autism, emphasizing that each child is unique and should be treated as special.
