Teachers, they say your reward is in heaven, This generational ideology impact that not sit well with the member of parliament Amasaman Hon Afrifa Mensa who has always made a difference by setting up an award Scheme to honour and motivate teachers in his constituency at GA West Municipality.
The MP Hon Akwesi Africa who is also the Board Chair of the National Youth Authority in his address said the award ceremony was instituted to celebrate hard-working teachers who have contributed both physically and spiritually to the development of students in the municipality.
The Afrifa- Mensa Teacher Prize 2023 was organized in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service in the municipality under the theme “Thriving Transformation Celebrating Educators to Champion Education” Hon Afrifa further added even though he would not run as a Parliamentary candidate in 2024, he would wish his successor would continue with a much-improved awards scheme to honour very dedicated and passion of the teachers in the area.
Hon Akwesi Afrifa also enumerated his achievements under his turner by supporting the Educational Directorates with 5000 double desks, construction of classrooms and lifting some Arts and Science Laboratories in the Municipality.
The Special Guest Speaker for the special ceremony Dr Mama Laryea who is the Executive Director of Learning Masterminds in her address advises teachers to be passionate and innovative in the teaching profession.
She further urged the teachers to develop a positive mindset and be creative in developing their teaching modules to serve as catalysts for change.
Dr Laryea in her conclusion remarks encouraged teachers to embrace Morden technology to sharpen their skills and learn from one another.
The Greater Accra Regional Director of Ghana Education Education Service Mr Stephen Abamfo congratulated and commended teachers in Ghana for making meaningful strides in the educational space by winning maths and science quizzes and other competitions.
Mr Abamfo further assured teachers government will do everything possible to make their lives better and make teaching conditions better for all. The most outstanding outstanding teacher in the Ga West Municipality Mr Elvis Mottey an integrated science teacher at Akyikan Doboro MA Basic School.
Mr Mottey was presented with a chest freezer, a medal and a certificate to recognize the sterling performance in shaping the future of the students.
In the Senior High School Category Mr Kwadwo Darkwa Essel, an integrated Science Teacher at Adjen Kotoku SHS won the best team award in the Municipality.
Madam Grace Adomako came in second, while Mr Seeth Agyakwa followed with the third position. In the junior High School Category, Mr Adams Ibrahim won the best teacher award in the Municipality with John Nee-Quaye in second place.

Special awards were also presented to heads of school and non-teaching staff for their selfless dedication to the growth of education in the Municipality.
They were all presented with double-deck fridges, certificates and Medals.
