The former Member of Parliament for Assin South, Hon Ken Ohene Ahyapong has called on all relevant stakeholders including the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service to find lasting solutions for safer markets in Ghana, in the wake of the fiery inferno that engulfed parts of Adum, at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement signed and released by his spokesperson, Mr Charles Amoh Darteh, the 6-term MP further expressed his profound sadness about the loss of property and investments by the traders, in the devastating fire outbreak that has destroyed several trading shops in the Central Business District of Kumasi.
It may be recalled that over the weekend, a fire broke out at a cluster of shops in the Adum area, consuming goods and properties worth millions of Ghana cedis.
Hon Ken Agyapong said as a businessman, he understands the plight of the affected persons due to the long business hours, the sacrifices and the hopes for a better future.
The Group chairman of Kencity Media Ltd said Ghana needed safer markets, better emergency access and reliable fire systems to protect Ghanaian traders who in turn secure the future of the country.
Hon Ken Agyapong said even though he is not in the country at present, he has sent a team to assess the situation and provide support, promising that upon his return, he will pay a visit to the market to engage them on the way forward.
He asked the affected persons not to lose hope insisting that Ghana remains strong due to the endurance of the people, and urged all to remain united and support each other in these difficult times.
