The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has appealed for peace among the various factions in the Bawku Municipality and environs to engender development for the area.
He made the passionate appeal on Thursday when he donated some food items to the Bawku Municipal Chief Executive for onward distribution to all the municipality members irrespective of their tribe or background.
The items consisted of 500 bags of 50kg of rice and 50 boxes of cooking oil.
The donation was in response to an appeal made to Kennedy Agyapong by some indigenes in the area, led by Abdulai Issaka, the NPP chairman for the Bawku Constituency, to alleviate the suffering of some communities cut off from the rest of the country due to heavy rains.
The communities include Kariyama, Possumes, Petelme, Azaanga, Natinga South and north, West Natinga, Hausa Zongo, Gingande, Zabugu, Kuka, Sabongari, Missiga, and Kutanga among others.
Hon Kennedy Agyapong who is also the Group Chairman for Kencity Media LTD, emphasized, that due to his neutrality, the gesture was for all, insisting the donation was to be shared equally and stressed that no one should be denied their share because of their background or tribe.
He hoped that the gesture would be the genesis of peace in the area, and stressed to the leadership of various communities that they should eschew enmity and embrace peace.
He said he had observed the vast land that the people are gifted with, opining that the area could do more productively like producing rice and other crops if they harnessed their energies in the right way, and again pleaded with the youth to try and live in peace and asked them to rethink their involvement in the conflict.
He emphasized that the gesture has nothing to do with his presidential ambitions but as a leader, it was his personal contribution to the plight of the distressed people and reiterated that he will not do politics with people’s requests and the dire situation.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku, Amadu Hamza taking his turn thanked the Assin Central MP for the kind and far-reaching gesture.
He agreed with Hon Kennedy Agyapong that the donation was not political but humanitarian and pledged to distribute the items equitably among the various communities.
