IMPROVING ROADS NETWORK IN DISTRICTS: BOOST FOR MMDAs AS GOV’T LAUNCHES DISTRICT ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (DRIP) ON WEDNESDAY

Every district in Ghana will soon receive road construction equipment, which will be used to build, repair, and maintain roads to improve the road network across the country.
The policy, which is dubbed the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP), was announced by the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Monday during his interaction with the Chief and people of the Mirigu Traditional area in the Chiana Paga constituency of the Upper West region.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia is currently in the UE Region on his final leg of the northern Ghana constituency-focused campaign tour to detail his vision and ideas for the nation ahead of the December 2024 elections.
The DRIP initiative seeks to address the critical issues of bad and inaccessible roads, aiming to enhance the convenience and connectivity of local communities. Dr. Bawumia said that through DRIP, the government is making significant investments in infrastructure, ensuring that roads are no longer a barrier but a bridge to opportunity and growth.”

The minister for local government, decentralization, and rural development, Mr. Martin Adjei Korsah Mensah, said DRIP is not just about roads; it’s about connecting people, communities, and opportunities. Together, we’re building roads to a better future. This is the District Road Improvement Program, paving the way for a brighter tomorrow.
He said the DRIP initiative, which is both a visionary and legendary project, is a legacy of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and despite this being an election year, it comes as a benefit to communities across Ghana.

Expressing his views on the DRIP initiative, the Deputy Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr. Yaw Preko, said the programme was not an election gimmick and the beneficiaries stood to benefit.

Dr. Janet Tulasi Mensah, the former MCE for Ga East, said the program was in the right direction and flattened claims that the DRIP initiative was an election gimmick. She, however, urged the MMDAs to ensure its efficient use for the benefit of all.
