Defender Joao Cancelo is set to be announced as a Bayern Munich player on loan from Manchester City.
Cancelo flew to Germany on Monday and underwent a medical.
The deal is an initial loan with an option to buy the full-back for more than £61m (€70m).
Cancelo has posted a goodbye message on his Instagram page which reads: “Once a Cityzen, always a Cityzen. Thank you.”
The Portuguese international has had limited game time since returning from the World Cup, with Pep Guardiola changing the shape of his side.
Cancelo started 36 times for City in the Premier League last season, but has had a restricted role at City this term, and has seen Pep Guardiola change the team’s shape and formation.
His representatives are understood to have brought the interest from Bayern to City and, given the emergence of Rico Lewis and the performances of Nathan Ake at full-back, City has been willing to allow Cancelo to move.
The versatile full-back has been a key part of Guardiola’s side since joining City from Juventus in a £60m deal in 2019 and has helped the team win two Premier League titles.
However, he appears to have fallen down the pecking order of late and has started just three games since top-level domestic football resumed in December.
With four other senior center-backs at the club John Stones, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and Manuel Akanji, City feels they have plenty of covers. Changes to the shape of the side have also not suited Cancelo’s game.
