Jose Mourinho departs Fenerbache

Fenerbahçe and José Mourinho have parted ways, just over a year after he took the helm. The club announced the news in a statement on Friday, thanking Mourinho for his efforts and wishing him well in his future endeavors.

This decision comes after Fenerbahçe’s narrow 1-0 loss to Benfica in the Champions League playoff tie on Wednesday, which meant they would participate in the Europa League instead.

During his tenure, Mourinho achieved impressive results, winning 37 out of 62 games. However, the team finished second in the Turkish Super Lig last season, trailing Galatasaray by 11 points. This season, they’ve started with a win and a draw in the league.

Mourinho’s departure marks the second high-profile managerial exit in Turkey within 24 hours, following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal by Besiktas after they failed to qualify for the Conference League.

After the match, Mourinho acknowledged Benfica’s superiority, stating that the win went to the team with better players and more experience. He also mentioned that competing in the Europa League could provide more opportunities for Fenerbahçe.
