Kotoko and Gold Stars paired with their opponents ahead of CAF Champions League

Bibiani Gold stars and Asante Kotoko club are set to participate in the CAF champions league as Ghana’s representatives respectively in the 2025/26 season.

Gold stars are making their debut in the competition following their historic run in the Ghana premier league as champions. They are bent on making new signings when the transfer window commences to strengthen their current squad ahead of the competition. Coach Frimpong Manso will be in the helm of affairs to ensure the physical and mental preparedness of his team.

Touted as the underdogs, Gold stars will look to mark their presence as a solid competitor when faced with experienced clubs who have had a long ride in the competition. They are paired with Algerian outfit, JS Kabylie who finished as runners up in the just ended Algerian professional league. The double fixture will commence on the 19 and 21 September in Kumasi.

Asante Kotoko won the MTN FA cup to book a ticket to represent Ghana in the confederations cup. The porcupine warriors will make their 11th appearance in the competition. They have a certain level of experience when it comes to the champions league. They have been paired with their West African counterpart Kwara united.

Kwara United, are making the trip on the back of their maiden President’s Federation Cup triumph, clinched after a goalless draw and a 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Abakaliki FC. Should the Porcupines advance, they will face Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round. Wydad, a multiple-time African champion, awaits the winner of the tie as they enter the competition at the next stage.

The second preliminary round’s first leg is slated for October 17–19, with the decisive return fixture to be played between October 24 and 26, 2025.
