Let’s Not Misinform The Public On Supreme Court Ruling – Deputy Speaker

The Hon First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Bekwai, Joseph Osei Owusu has cautioned Members of Parliament to be mindful of their comments on the Supreme Court ruling.

He explained that, everything Parliament does regarding the procedure is subject to the Constitution of Ghana, therefore, a particular clause of the Parliamentary Standing Order was against the Constitution which the Supreme Court ruled on it, making sure that Parliament gets it clear in order not to create chaos or misunderstanding on it.

Mr Osei-Owusu made these comments today in Parliament when the Hon. Member of Parliament for Bia-East, Richard Acheampong rise on his feet to challenge that, members of Parliament can not say, ‘WE ARE MASTERS OF OWN RULES’ since the ruling of the Supreme Court has defective the powers, per the ruling on the Deputy Speakers right of voting even when presiding over Parliamentary Proceedings.

All these comments came up when the Minority side raised the issue of ‘Quorum’ (less number of MPs in Parliament to do Parliamentary business) therefore calling for an adjustment of the House.
