Some concerned citizens at Zongo Junction at Madina in the La Nkwatanang Municipal area have bemoaned the anti-social and negative actions of some unscrupulous people to denigrate efforts by the government to enhance and beautify parts of the municipality.
The concerned citizens have therefore called on officials of the municipal assembly to put in measures to maintain and secure the beautification and sanitation efforts of the municipal assembly before it get out of hand.
The concerns arose on Friday, as some unscrupulous people converted the wired median at Zongo Junction, on the Madina – Adenta section of the N4 highway, into a laundry space to dry their personal items.
At some points on the highway, the wired median has been pulled down to facilitate the movement of hawkers, commuters and traders at Zongo Junction, despite the huge resources that have been invested to enhance the spatial development of the area.
The eyesore which drew the public’s condemnation, comes against the backdrop of some negative attitudes of the Ghanaian public, especially in the rainy season, where some unruly people exhibit anti-social behaviours to the detriment of the public.
Speaking to NET2 TV News, some residents and commuters in the area shared their displeasure with the unsightly development. They decried the negative and selfish attitudes of some members of the public, who, despite efforts by the government to beautify some public spaces, do their worst to negate the efforts to transform and beautify public spaces.
The Madina Zonal Council Administrator at the La-Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly, Mr Foster Okyere Boateng, speaking with NET2 TV News, said the eyesore is a concern for them, as they have on several occasions, intervened to stop the menace but the problem persists.
He said going forward, the municipal assembly will detail officers to monitor activities on the wired median and put in place measures to permanently stop the canker and eyesore.
