Mahama Visits 37 Military Hospital After El-Wak Stadium Stampede That Claimed Six Lives

President John Mahama has visited the 37 Military Hospital in Accra to receive updates on the tragic stampede that occurred on Wednesday, November 12, during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at El-Wak Sports Stadium.

He was accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Acting Defence Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, and other government officials. Mahama, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, made the visit following the deaths of six job seekers, with several others injured during the exercise.

The military reported that 28 people were taken to the hospital for treatment. Of these, six have been confirmed dead, five are in the ICU, and 12 remain in critical condition.

According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the tragedy occurred around 6:20 a.m. when an unexpected surge of applicants breached security protocols and forced their way through the gates ahead of the scheduled screening.

The GAF extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
