The Ghana Armed Forces will resume its suspended recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
According to the military, qualified applicants will receive SMS messages with their reporting dates and designated screening centres.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters said applicants will be processed in controlled batches of 600 persons.
This measure is intended to avoid a repeat of the November 12 incident at El-Wak Stadium that led to the deaths of six applicants and left 28 others injured.
Screening will take place at eight sub-centres across five locations.
The centres are El-Wak Stadium, Nicholson Park at Burma Camp, Air Force Base at Burma Camp, the Training and Doctrine Command in Teshie and the Eastern Naval Command in Tema.
To reduce congestion, the GAF advised relatives and friends not to accompany applicants to the centres. According to the statement, non-applicants will not be allowed entry.
The 2025 and 2026 recruitment exercises were suspended after the deadly stampede on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
The tragedy occurred when a large crowd of applicants pushed through security barriers and rushed towards the gates before the scheduled screening.
All six deceased were female applicants. Five victims remain in the Intensive Care Unit at the 37 Military Hospital, while twelve others are in critical condition.
The military said all injured applicants will continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital until they recover.
A special recruitment package will be offered to all injured persons after they have fully recovered and to the families of the deceased. The military added that anyone found responsible for the incident will face sanctions.
The incident brought to the fore the harsh realities of youth unemployment in the country, with many seeing the security services as one of the few opportunities to be employed, especially in the public sector.
Speaking to NET2 TV NEWS on the unfortunate, tragic incident at El-Wak, Mr Barima Otchere-Darko, a pastor, writer and an engineer, and a member of the Team Ken Communications unit, said the unfortunate but high unemployment levels in the country needs a problem solver like Ken Ohene Agyapong, who has what it takes to create jobs and opportunities for the nation’s teaming youth.
He appealed to the delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to vote for Ken Ohene Agyapong to win the presidential primaries, so that he can wrest power from the National Democratic Congress and implement his vision to create jobs for the youth.
