Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Directs Forestry Commission To Stop All Mining In Forest Reserves

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources John Abu Jinapor has directed the Forestry Commission to stop all mining in forest reserves.

He said forest reserves must remain same except in extreme cases. Speaking at the launch of Green Ghana campaign which will come off in June this year, Mr Jinapor asked the Forestry Commission to devise a strategy to flash out all those mining in forest reserves.


He said it cannot be business as usual hence his resolve to get the job done. The Sector minister said security agencies, chiefs and all Ghanaians must assist government to preserve the country’s forest cover for future generation.

He said there must be serious retrospection and reforms within all the agencies under the ministry to ensure compliance.

On the Green Ghana campaign, Mr Jinapor said on June 11 five million trees will be planted across the country. He said President Akufo Addo, Vice President Bawumia and the Asantehene will all plants some trees to replenish the country’s forest cover.

Mr Jinapor later planted two trees to signify his visit to the commission.

The minister will from tomorrow embark on a two day working visit to the Ashanti Region.
