The Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has called on President John Dramani Mahama and his government to expedite efforts to reconstruct the Adum Market, which was recently gutted by fire.
According to the Minority, the incident has severely affected the livelihoods of the traders, necessitating urgent government intervention.
The Parliamentarians led by the Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin donated GH¢200,000 to assist victims of the fire outbreak at the Adum Blue Light Market in Kumasi.
The financial support is intended to offer immediate relief to traders whose goods and livelihoods were destroyed in the devastating blaze.
The Minority Leader, expressed his deepest sympathies to the affected traders, acknowledging the emotional and financial toll the incident has taken.
He reiterated the need for solidarity in times of crisis, stating that the Minority Caucus could not stand idly by in the face of such loss.
Minority in Parliament also appealed to the government to replicate the assistance provided in past emergencies by releasing funds from the Contingency Fund to aid the victims.
Afenyo-Markin assured the traders that the Minority would raise the matter on the floor of Parliament and push for the necessary support to help the traders rebuild their lives.
