MP demands justice in the alleged murder of Albert Donkor

Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum and the youth of Nkoranza are demanding justice for Albert Donkor a native who is alleged to have been killed by the Police.

The people are calling on the President of Ghana, Ministers of State, Parliament, human rights organizations and the clergy to add their voices to the clarion call to demand justice for Albert Donkor who was shot by the police leading to his untimely death.

According to the group, On  25 April 2022 at exactly 1:00 am-midnight, the late Albert Donkor was picked up at his mother’s residence at Kasadjan in the Nkoranza Municipality by the Ghana Police Service on suspicion of a robbery that had occurred on the Nkoranza-Kintampo road.

“Albert Donkor was denied access to a lawyer of his choice, his family members were denied access to him, he was never tried by any competent court and today, all we are hearing is Albert is no more; how reckless can the police service be? This is indeed an epidemic of injustice. The people of Nkoranza cannot stay silent when innocent Albert Donkor has been targeted and killed” part of their press statement reads.

“What is the justification for arresting a civilian at his residence and subjecting him to torture causing his death and not that the death occurred as a result of a gun battle at the crime scene. The rambling explanation given by the police that the victim was shot by the robbers when the victim led the police to arrest other suspects at a ghetto is untenable and cannot be accepted by the people of Nkoranza South as same excuse was given in the bullion van robbery case at Ashaiman”

“This is indeed glaring and an unfortunate display of incompetent strategic leadership within the police service. In fact, with this culture of policing there is no question that Ghana is living a nightmare with no end in sight. The police service should let the people of Nkoranza know the competent court that sanctioned the killing of Albert Donkor” the statement demands.

There is an ongoing social media campaign with the hush tag #JusticeForAlbert which has gotten the attention of the Convenor of the #FixedTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor.

Evans Kwabena Sarpong a source at Nkronza reports “On Friday, May 13, the Nkoranza Youth took to the streets and burnt car tires, blocked the roads in the evening in the midst of blackout as a demonstration against the Nkoranza South Ghana Police Service as part of their, ‘Where Is Albert Donkor ‘ and ‘Nkoranza Youth demand Justice for Albert’ campaigns. It took the Ankobeahene of Nkoranza Traditional Council, Oheneba Agyei Baffoe who intervened and asked them to meet him”.

“On Saturday, April 14, the leaders of the Youth of Nkoranza were invited to the Han-Ser Hotel by some unknown strangers who claimed to have been sent to Nkoranza by the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare after he was informed by the Bono East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Moses Asabagna Atibillah of what has been going on in Nkoranza recent days.

This was followed up with another meeting which was held at the Ankobeahene’s residence which comprised of the youth of Nkoranza, the Ankobeahene, Bono East Regional Minister, the Municipal Chief Executive, Regional Police Commander, Nkoranza Divisional Police Commander and the District Police Commander.

The youth was led by Nana Nyarko Ababio aka Paa Prince who channeled the grievances of the youth to the aforementioned VIPs that, they want the whereabouts of Albert and also want Justice for him”

“The Bono East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Moses Asabagna Atibillah apologized on behalf of the Police Service for the mistake done and the LOSS, DEMISE of Albert. (So for now, it became confirmed to everyone present that, Albert Donkor popularly known as Balusu is DEAD). He promised the Nkoranza Youth to stay calm for now as he would be filing his report to the IGP who sent him to Nkoranza today and that, they’re going to bring every person involved to book”

“The Bono East Regional Minister, Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan also pleaded with the youth of Nkoranza about what has happened to Albert but assures them, they shall know where the body of Albert is and who was responsible for his demise”

“We’re currently waiting for Monday to see what’s next on this Albert Donkor’s death. It’s really sad” he concluded his report.
