MTN Ghana Announces Six-Hour Mobile Money Service Interruption

MTN Ghana has announced a planned six-hour Mobile Money (MoMo) service disruption on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. due to a critical system upgrade.

During this time, all MoMo services including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and merchant payments will be unavailable.

Charles Asamoah Assah, Chief Technology & Service Delivery Officer, stated the upgrade aims to boost system performance, enhance fraud security, and support future digital improvements. He apologized for the inconvenience and urged customers to complete urgent transactions in advance.

MTN assures users that accounts will remain secure and services will resume promptly after the upgrade. Given MoMo’s central role in Ghana’s economy, the temporary outage may impact daily financial activities.
