My main problem of PFJ is how to manage the surplus- Agric Minister

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Akoto Owusu Afriyie says his main problem now with the Planting for Food and Jobs( PFJ) is how to manage the surplus arisng from the Planting for Food and Jobs program.

Dr Akoto Owusu Afriyie further indicated, that if he is not able to manage the surplus of planting for food and Jobs (PFJ) the program will be a victim of it’s own success.

Speaking at the 3rd Annual Conference of the Ghana Association of Agricultural Economist on the theme Sustainable Agriculture for National Development: Finance, Markets and Job Creation, he said the Ministry has distributed thirteen thousand improve seeds to the farmers across the country which is more than double of what was distributed last year for the season.

Mr Akoto revealed that due to the bumper harvest which is anticipated this year the Ministry is putting up measures to avoid post harvest losses, the Ministry is assisting farmers and individual to import agro processing equipment to go into processing.

Dr Susana Adjei, Vice President, Ghana Association of Agricultural Economic, speaking to the media she commended the government for the effort and policies in place to lift up the agricultural sector. She called on all farmers to embrace the good policies by the government.
