The National Communications Authority has inaugurated an eight-member committee to help with the speedy resolution of disputes in the electronic communication industry.
This came to light due to several complaints from customers of mobile networks and service providers to seek redress from the National Communications Authority’s Dispute Resolution Committee.
The Board Chairman of National Communications Authority Okatakyie Ababio Boakye Danquah II, who swore the members into office at the headquarters of NCA in Accra in his address said the Committee which also has a statutory tenure of office would use avenues outside the adversarial court system to amicably solve disputes using industry knowledge and the rudiments of businesses as well as the needs of stakeholders.
He also charged the committee members to discharge their duties guided by the tenets of the 1992 Constitution and the standards of high moral character.
The Chairperson of the Dispute Committee Mr. Patrick Anim Boateng thanked the NCA for the confidence reposed in them and assured them of the committee’s readiness to work with diligence, speed, transparency, focused on the interest of the customers.
He further assured the public that the committee will ensure that grievances among sector players does not escalate to litigations which most often puts spokes in the wheels of the smooth running of business.
The eight-member committee is chaired by Patrick Boateng, a former lecturer with over 30 years experience in the telecommunications space.
Other committee members include Prof. Mark Adom Asamoah, STEM policy advisor and coordinator of the Reform Delivery Unit at the Ministry of Education and the former Provost of the College of Engineering at the KNUST, Member of Parliament for Juaben and former Deputy Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ama Pomaa Boateng and Dr. Jemimah Nunoo, former technical advisor in charge of media and strategic communication at the office of the President,
The rest are Prince Harry Christal, a broadcast engineer, a member of the National Media Commission as well as an Executive member of GIBA, Kofi Owusu Nhyirah, a lawyer, Kusum Appiah, Head of Digital Transformation Delivery Unit at the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, Golda Sowah Adjei Deputy Director Administration Division and Nana Adwoa Adobea Asante.
Director General of NCA, Joe Anokye, said he was hopeful that the Committee would be able to resolve the industries disputes amicably on time.
