The Eastern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a solemn vigil at Koforidua Jackson Park on Wednesday night, August 13, to honour the memory of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and seven others who tragically lost their lives in the helicopter crash on August 6.
The memorial event drew NDC supporters, local residents, and members of the clergy, all gathered in a spirit of unity and mourning.
Former National Chairman of the NDC and Policy Advisor at the Office of the Vice President, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, paid tribute to Dr. Boamah, commending his efforts in bolstering the party’s influence within the medical fraternity. He reflected on Boamah’s pivotal role in establishing the party’s presence at the University of Ghana Medical School.
“We will not let this loss weaken us. Instead, it will strengthen our resolve to pursue the reset agenda for the benefit of everyone,” Ampofo affirmed.
Eastern Regional Minister, Madam Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, also spoke in admiration of Dr. Boamah, highlighting his leadership and dedication to fighting illegal mining. She described him as a committed advocate for community involvement in addressing the issue of galamsey.
Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua, signed the book of condolence and offered words of caution to religious leaders, advising against making baseless public comments regarding the incident. He called for compassion, prayer, and restraint, emphasizing the deep pain being endured by the families of the deceased.
