The National Identification Authority (NIA) has begun the registration of Ghanaian children aged 6 to 14 years at its Premium Centres nationwide.
The move, the NIA explained in a statement that is “in line with the NIA’s legal mandate to register all Ghanaians, both at home and abroad, and to ensure that every citizen has a secure and verifiable national identity.”
It further marks “another step forward in building a comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR) that captures every Ghanaian from childhood.”
Parents or legal guardians of children in this age group are required to present one of the following documents for registration: a valid Ghanaian Passport of the child, the original copy of the child’s Birth Certificate, or a Ghana Card holder parent or legal guardian who can vouch for the child.
The fee for first-time registration at Premium Centres is GHS 310, consistent with the approved charges for premium services.
Effective Monday, September 15, 2025, the NIA will extend its online registration and booking system to all 11 remaining Premium Centres nationwide.
“Applicants are encouraged to make use of the online appointment booking system to ensure a smooth and timely process at the Premium Centres,” the release noted.
The Authority assures that issuance of Ghana Cards for registered children aged 6-14 will be communicated in due course.
Additionally, NIA plans to announce the extension of registration services to all NIA District Offices nationwide in the coming weeks to expand access for applicants across the country.
