Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has expressed doubts about the readiness of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host the upcoming 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament.
The pre-season competition, scheduled for August 20 to 24, will feature Bibiani Gold Stars FC, Heart of Lions, Asante Kotoko, and Hearts of Oak. Although GHALCA had announced the Kumasi based stadium as the venue, Ampofo Ankrah revealed in an interview with Sporty FM that the facility currently falls short of the required standards.
“As it stands, the stadium isn’t ready, and we’ve informed GHALCA they’re aware of the situation,” he said.
He added that the NSA plans to visit Kumasi next week to assess the stadium and determine the way forward.
“The key issue is funding. If we had a million Ghana cedis or even a million dollars, we could begin immediate work,” he explained.
While some minor maintenance work has been done, the NSA boss emphasized that long-term improvements would require substantial financial resources.
“It’s a matter of time but unfortunately, time may not be on our side,” he concluded.
