Over 40 youth equipped with skills training in website development to pitch Business ideas

More than 40 young men and women have been trained in Website Development and applied research at this year’s Koforidua Start-Up Summit, held at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The summit which took place on Saturday was under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications in collaboration with its partners, Eastern Tech Hub, Ghana Tech Lab, MasterCard Foundation, and the World Bank.

The summit is to equip the youth with the skills to pitch services and business ideas to investors and to create avenues for job opportunities in the region.

The training summit was under the Theme, ‘Digitizing Commerce for Sustainable Business Development and Job Creation in Koforidua’.

Before the summit, the startups participated in GTL’s Base Innovation Program, which focused on mobile applications with Flutter and GTL’s Acceleration Track. The Base Innovation Program ran for six (6) weeks, followed by ten (10) weeks of incubation and internship.

At the end of the summit, winners stand a chance to receive access to working space and internet service, business development support, mentorship through Ghana Tech Lab Mentorship Network, media and branding support, and also access to a broader market offered by GTL partners through referrals.

Alhaji Abubakar Alhassan, the New Juaben Municipal Director of the Youth Employment Agency, explained the importance of digital media and job creation among the youth.He commended Eastern Tech Hub for bringing such digitization skills to help the youth to create jobs for themselves.

Speaking to Net2tv news in an interview, Alhaji Abubakar Alhassan applauded the initiative, which is much more compatible with government intervention to help move the country to a digitalized era.

Alhaji Abubakar Alhassan urged the trainees to take advantage of digital marketing, as it is the trend and convenient way of transacting business.

The Chief Executive Officer of Eastern Tech Hub, Jones Amarteifio also speaking with NET2 TV NEWS, emphasized the relevance of digital skills and how critical it is for young people to use them to positively impact their societies.

He stated that their NGO has trained over 300 youth since its establishment in September 2019 with most of them setting up their own businesses. According to him, the initiative, provides an opportunity for the startups to pitch their business ideas to an audience composed of successful entrepreneurs, affluent business executives, seasoned industry experts, government officials, investors and the general public.

He commended the government for providing social intervention policies within digitalized Ghana, hence to bring exciting educating and changing dynamics skills from the old system to new erra of transacting business ideas in the job market and the country at large.
