PARLIAMENTARY SEAT BROUHAHA: PARLIAMENT INDEFINITELY ADJOURNED FOR THE SECOND TIME AND MAJORITY LEADER ACCUSES SPEAKER OF SUPERVISING LAWLESSNESS

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has adjourned the House indefinitely due to the absence of business for lawmakers to deliberate on, following the failure of the Business Committee to meet and prepare the necessary agenda for the floor.
The recall session, initiated by the majority caucus, had been expected to address several critical issues.
Addressing the House on Thursday, November 7, 2024, Speaker Bagbin highlighted that without committee input and an agenda, the session could not proceed as planned.
He explained that there is no order paper for the day because the business committee could not meet.
The Speaker added that knowing the challenges the House is facing, it is not advisable to be adjourning from day to day, so he is proceeding once again to adjourn the house indefinitely.

After the Speaker’s ruling, the Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Awutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, held a press conference to accuse the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in lawlessness by occupying the side of the majority in the House again during the proceedings.
He also accused the Speaker of Parliament of supervising lawlessness.
Afenyo-Markin stated that the NDC wants confusion and lawlessness in Ghana, and all these are being supervised by Mr. Speaker.

The majority leader also accused NDC of sabotaging government business and outlined his reasons for NDC’s action.

A member of the majority caucus and MP for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, used the opportunity to explain the reasons why the majority caucus were absent from the chamber.

Hon. Ken Agyapong also tasked the media to be truthful and circumspect in their reportage since their report can lead to chaos in the country.

This latest adjournment comes amid ongoing tensions between the Majority and Minority caucuses over which side is the majority.
It remains uncertain when Parliament will reconvene to address the stalled issues, leaving the legislative agenda for this session in a state of flux.
