POLICE, ELECTORAL COMMISSION CONFER: IGP ASSURES EC OF POLICE READINESS FOR ELECTIONS THIS YEAR

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reiterated the readiness of the police and other security agencies to work with the Electoral Commission (EC) and all other stakeholders for peaceful polls in December this year.
He said the police will work with the EC to address all their security concerns ahead of the polls.
He made this commitment when he led a delegation of the police hierarchy to pay a working visit to the Electoral Commission in Accra, where he met its Chairperson, Madam Jean Mensah and her commissioners.
The discussions centered on security matters and matters arising during this year’s election season.
The IGP further revealed that its national election security task force is working with all relevant stakeholders and will continue to do more to ensure that Ghana continues to remain peaceful before, during and after the polls.

On her part, EC chair, Jean Mensa commended the IGP and thepolicee leadership for their proactiveness towards the upcoming polls. She said she is confident that the approach the police leadership has taken towards the election will help build confidence among all stakeholders.
According to her, both institutions regard this year’s elections as crucial, for which reason the EC is poised to deliver transparent and fair elections.
