The Ghana Police Service, under the direction of the National Elections Security Taskforce (NESTF), has successfully recovered a stolen Nissan pickup truck that belonged to Ursula Owusu Ekuful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West.
The recovery of the vehicle follows the Ghana Police’s ongoing efforts to crack down on criminal activities, particularly those linked to post-election disturbances. The swift action by the police is a testament to the effectiveness of the measures implemented to ensure security and combat lawlessness in the aftermath of the elections.
Efforts Leading to Vehicle Recovery and Arrests
ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, head of the Public Affairs Directorate for the Ghana Police Service, confirmed the successful recovery of the stolen vehicle and highlighted the broader success of the police operations. She noted that the police had arrested 17 additional suspects over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of arrests to 123 in connection with post-election violence and related crimes.
“This recovery is part of our continued efforts to maintain law and order, as well as to crack down on individuals engaging in criminal activities during this post-election period,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi stated.
Ongoing Search for Vandals
The police have also intensified their efforts to locate and apprehend those responsible for the vandalism of police stations in Techiman and Wenchi in the Bono East and Bono Regions respectively. These incidents, which occurred during the post-election period, are among the key targets of the police’s ongoing investigation.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi reiterated that the National Elections Security Taskforce (NESTF) will not rest until all those involved in the disturbances, including the vandals, are arrested and brought to justice.
Enhanced Security Measures Nationwide
As part of the continued efforts to maintain peace and security, ACP Ansah-Akrofi emphasized that patrols and the deployment of personnel have been expanded across the country, particularly in communities vulnerable to unrest. Under the guidance of NESTF, these operations are aimed at ensuring that law and order are upheld throughout the post-election phase.
“Our work is far from over. We are committed to ensuring that all perpetrators are brought to justice, and we are fully engaged in maintaining stability and security across the country,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi assured the public.
The recovery of the stolen vehicle and the subsequent arrests underscore the proactive role of the Ghana Police Service in safeguarding peace and responding to post-election challenges. The police, working closely with NESTF, continue to be vigilant in their efforts to prevent further violence and uphold the rule of law.
