The President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, gave a new leash of life to the sport of rugby football in Ghana, when he announced a $100,000 reward package to the Ghana Rugby Football Union.
The package which was in recognition of the efforts of the various national teams of the Ghana Rugby Football Union for winning four trophies in the recent past, subsequently making Ghana proud.
President Akufo-Addo made the announcement when the executives and some players and technical officials of the GRFU, paid a courtesy call on the president at the Jubilee House.
Laying out the achievements of the association and its teams, the president of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Herbert Mensah, showcased some of the trophies to the president and enumerated their achievements during the tenure of the President Akufo-Addo.
Herbert Mensah was full of appreciation for the efforts of the president to uplift sports and its development in the country.
President Akufo-Addo on his part congratulated the team for the renown done to Ghana, and called on other sports disciplines to take a leaf from the example of rugby especially in the area of education.
He expressed his support for the idea of developing a strong rubgy development in Ghana, and used the occasion to announce a $100000 dollar reward package to the association in recognition of their efforts.
