The Prime Minister of the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Keith Rowley arrived in Ghana on Thursday as the special guest for the 63rd Independence Day anniversary celebrations in Ghana to be held in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi.
The premier who was welcomed to the Jubilee House by the President of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, inspected the ceremonial guard and was ushered into the ceremonial room, where they conferred momentarily with the first family of Ghana.
The
two sides then engaged in a bilateral meeting where matters of economic and
political interests were discussed with the two sides highlighting on some
outstanding issues in earlier bilateral agreements especially in the area of
air service, with President Akufo-Addo emphasizing the need for it be concluded
in earnest.
The President also mentioned some projects including malaria collaboration with Trinidad and Tobago as well as promoting Ghanaian businesses in Trinidad and Tobago
The President also mentioned the beyond the return policy to sustain the gains of the year of return, adding that the people of Kumasi are excited waiting for the independence celebrations.
President
said the 2 countries share democratic traits and hopes the future remains democratic
for the 2 countries.
President
Akufo-Addo used the occasion to highlight the issue of aviation relations
between the two countries.
The Trinidad Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley for his part said, he was looking forward to history as the people of Kumasi are eager to welcome them to Ghana.
He
stressed that his country would like to strengthen the bond especially in the
area of economic development.
Dr
Keith Rowley stressed that they see Ghana as the gateway to Africa and
expressed the belief that once they establish air service with Ghana the
potential is great.
He
also made a case for an Agriculture partnership with the Ghana agribusiness
industry and named cocoa as a area of cooperation between the two countries.
