On Sunday, August 17, President John Dramani Mahama departed Accra for official visits to Japan and Singapore, aimed at strengthening Ghana’s trade, investment, and development partnerships.
During his stay in Japan, President Mahama will take part in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he is scheduled to deliver a speech at a plenary session focused on advancing trade and investment. He will also headline a Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, designed to highlight opportunities under his “Resetting Ghana” agenda.
In a statement, Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced that the President will hold high-level talks with key stakeholders, including the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), officials from the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. These discussions will centre on strengthening collaboration in trade, infrastructure, technical cooperation, and investment.
Following his engagements in Tokyo, President Mahama will travel to Singapore for a three-day state visit. His schedule includes a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum. He will also speak at an investment forum, where he is expected to present Ghana’s reform agenda and encourage Singaporean businesses to consider investing in the country.
According to the Office of the President, the visits are expected to boost foreign investment, increase market access for Ghanaian products, and enhance cooperation in technology, finance, infrastructure development, and human capital advancement.
