Queen’s Platinum Jubilee: Queen beams and crowds cheer as celebration gets off to flying start

The Queen made her first appearance at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations as she came out onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch the flypast of RAF planes.

As the first British monarch to mark 70 years on the throne, the Queen let the younger generation take the spotlight for the Trooping the Colour ceremony this morning.

The Prince of Wales took the salute in place of his 96-year-old mother for what is known as the Queen’s Birthday Parade. The prince, colonel of the Welsh Guards, was joined by the Duke of Cambridge, Colonel of the Irish Guards and Princess Royal, Colonel of The Blues and Royals.
