Marcus Rashford has completed a season-long loan move to Barcelona from Manchester United. The deal includes an option for the Spanish club to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season. The 27-year-old England international’s future at United has been uncertain since a public falling-out with manager Ruben Amorim last winter.
While Barcelona will cover the entirety of Rashford’s wages during the loan period, they are currently unable to register the forward due to LaLiga’s financial regulations.
The Spanish champions are reported to have exceeded their income with spending on transfers and salaries for the 2024/25 season. According to LaLiga rules, clubs must operate within their financial means only spending what they generate, meaning Barcelona must sell players, lower their wage bill, or boost revenue in order to register new signings like Rashford.
The deadline to resolve the registration issue is the end of August, and Barcelona remain confident they will be able to register Rashford and their other new signings in time for the upcoming season.
Despite ongoing financial challenges, the Catalan giants have consistently managed to register new arrivals before the season begins.
England international Marcus Rashford had previously expressed a desire to play for Barcelona this summer and was already exploring a move to the LaLiga champions back in January, prior to his loan switch to Aston Villa.
His move to Camp Nou is believed to have been approved by Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick, following direct conversations between the two.
