The Minister of the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey, has pledged the government’s commitment to ensuring conditions for free, fair and credible elections in the general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
In this regard, the Interior Minister has charged the Ghana Police Service to effectively discharge their duties with the utmost professionalism and especially deal with miscreants on social media who intend to cause fear and panic during the elections.
Hon. Henry Quartey made these remarks when he paid a working visit to the headquarters of the Ghana Police Service in Accra on Monday as part of his familiarization tour of various security agencies, after he was appointed Minister of the Interior.
The Interior Minister, in his address to the police officers, highlighted the government’s drive, since 2017, to resource and retool the police service for greater efficiency.

Hon Henry Quartey used the occasion to commend the police for effectively reducing the crime rate in the country through various measures including visibility and improved logistics.

Henry Quartey, who is also the MP for Ayawaso Central in the Greater Accra region, chastised some negative activities of the police service in particular and the security services in general and urged them to remain disciplined to keep the country safe and secure.

On the elections in December, the Interior Minister reiterated the commitment to providing an enabling atmosphere for free, fair and credible elections and called on the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on any wrongdoer, who threatens the peace and security of the country, by creating fear and panic, especially on social media.

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for his part, pledged the commitment of the police service to remain truly professional, in ensuring the peace, safety and security of all Ghanaians.
