Sunyani Airport to be opened soon for business -Transport Minister

All things being equal, the Sunyani Airport is ready to be reopened for aircraft after its closure to freights since 2015 for renovations, Kweku Ofori Asiamah, Transport Minister, has announced.

The Minister made the disclosure after he led a team comprising of Minister for Employment and Labour Relations Hon Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Authorities of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and other regulatory bodies on a final inspection tour of phase one of the Sunyani Airport on Tuesday.

The minister after the inspection of the renovation works at the airport expressed his satisfaction with the work done and added that phase two, which consists of raising the central tower from two-storey to three-storey, separating the departure hall from the arrival hall, providing drainage and proper sewage system, and adding bigger septic tanks is next in line to be constructed.

Hon Ofori Asiamah averred that the project would open the economy of the country, especially for those in the three regions of Bono, Bono East and Ahafo, because it would reduce the travel time of passengers which is in line with the vision of the Government to develop and promote domestic airline services.

The Managing Director for the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Pamela Djamson-Tettey pegged the progress of work on the facility at 99.99 percent which she hopes to starts receiving aircraft any moment from now pending approval from the regulatory bodies.
