Commercial transport operators, including the GPRTU of TUC, GRTCC, and several drivers’ unions, are urgently calling for repairs to the Pokuase–Nsawam road, which they describe as unmotorable and hazardous.
In a joint statement dated August 14, 2025, the operators stated that the deteriorating condition of the road is leading to frequent vehicle breakdowns, increased maintenance costs, and reduced vehicle lifespans.
They further warned that the situation is disrupting economic activities and hindering travel to the Eastern, Ashanti, and other northern regions of the country.
According to the statement, the Minister for Roads and Highways had earlier assured them that repairs would begin within six weeks. However, that timeline has passed without any visible progress.
The transport operators have given the government a one-week ultimatum to commence meaningful repairs or face a mass protest, which will involve the withdrawal of all commercial vehicles operating along the route.
They are also calling on motorists, commuters, residents, and the general public to join the planned protest to help pressure the authorities into taking immediate action.
