Hon Ken Ohene Agyapong, a leading presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has blamed the lack of political leadership in job creation and industrialisation for the problem of illegal mining, one of the biggest and precarious threats to the nation’s economy.
The former Member of Parliament for Assin Central said the youth cannot be blamed entirely for the challenges illegal mining poses, as the lack of employment pushes them to engage in illegal mining schemes, to earn a living, feed their families and live a purposeful life.
Hon Ken Agyapong made these statements during his address to delegates at Amenfi East in the Western Region, as part of his nationwide Unity Tour.
With job creation as one of his campaign mantras, Ken Agyapong criticised the absence of alternative jobs for the youth, stressing that the lack of leadership to create a vibrant and transformative value-adding industry and businesses has left the youth with very few options, including illegal mining.
He said the area is blessed with all the potential and resources needed for a blossoming community, but what they lack is a business-oriented leader to lead the transformation of the economy, and assured the delegates, he is the answer to the country’s woes.
In a related development, the Amenfi Central constituency chairman of the NPP, Mr Ebenezer Bimpeh, has eulogised the political leadership values of Hon Ken Agyapong, and his commitment to the welfare of the party and its members and has called on the delegates from the constituency to vote for him.
The Amenfi Central constituency chairman was full of praise for the deep understanding and dedication, Ken Agyapong exhibits and attaches in his dealings with NPP foot-soldiers and grassroots.
Mr Ebenezer Bimpeh made these revelations when he recounted his experiences with the philanthropist, business magnate and politician, to delegates in the constituency, during a visit by Ken Agyapong as part of his presidential campaign tour of the Western Region.
The Amenfi Central NPP constituency chairman said Hon Ken Agyapong has agreed to adopt the constituency and support it to win the parliamentary seat for the NPP for the first time in the party’s history.
He urged the delegates to support the vision and objective of Ken Agyapong to win the primaries and subsequently the presidency in 2028, so that he can bring a wind of change to Amenfi Central.
