The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured the chiefs and people of Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region that if elected in the December elections, his administration will be accountable to the Ghanaians.
He said that, unlike his main contender, John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who is not obliged to return to account for his stewardship after being voted in, he would come back to account for his tenure as he seeks re-election for a second term.
The Vice President reiterated this pledge during his interaction with stakeholders at Akrofuom to shed more light on his bold solutions for Ghana.
Dr. Bawumia is currently in the Ashanti Region on his constituency-focused nationwide tour. Tuesday’s campaign included stops at Akrofuom and Obuasi.
In his welcome note, the Regent of Akrofuom, Nana Anim Agyekum II, praised the NPP government for making the town a district, which he says has led to development in the district. He also commended the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for spearheading progress in the area.
He, however, urged Dr. Bawumia to prioritise the construction of their roads when elected.
The NPP flagbearer, in his response, said his administration will be accountable to the people because he is obliged to if he wants re-election, but former president Mahama, who has already served one term, is not mandated to return to account for his stewardship.
He promised the traditional rulers and stakeholders that he would prioritise their roads as it is the top request.
Speaking during a community connect forum where he addressed the youth, traders, artisans, and students, Dr. Bawumia insisted that the NPP government has outperformed the NDC in all sectors despite global shocks like the COVID-19 and Russia-Ukraine war.
He urged them to vote overwhelmingly for the NPP to continue the transformation of the country.
Obuasi was the next stop for the NPP flagbearer, where he held a stakeholders’ engagement with the chiefs, clergy, clerics, and opinion leaders.
The Kontihene of Dompoase, Nana Keteke Apenteng II, assured Dr. Bawumia and the NPP of their support due to the developments brought to the community under the Akufo-Addo administration.
Dr. Bawumia reiterated his pledge to involve chiefs in the mining licensing regime as a way of ensuring their participation in the local governance of the mining sector.
At a community connect event, the NPP flag bearer trumpeted his promise to explore more legal and environmentally safe ways of mining for local communities.
He also used the opportunity to outline his bold solutions for Ghana and urged them to vote for the NPP.
