The Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Richard Ebbah Obeng has applauded the forceful efforts of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor to protect the country’s Natural Resources through his engagements with the Regional Coordinating Council’s (RCC) across the country.
He described the Minister’s move of collaborating closely with the Regional Coordinating Council as a “Wise decision”.
He explained that it is always reassuring to see sector Ministers involve the RCC’s in their works.
Hon. Ebbah Obeng maintained that through the efforts of Hon. Jinapor and some structures put in place locally are seeing the restoration of the Oti river, which was massively polluted by illegal mining activities.
He further expressed his profound gratitude to the Minister for recognizing the relevance of REGSEC and making them a pertinent part of the decision body in curbing the illegal mining menace.
On his part, the Hon. Minister Samuel A.Jinapor reminded members of the Regional Security Councils of their key role as “arrow heads” in tackling illegal mining.
He indicated that fighting the illegal mining menace requires a decentralized effort to completely get rid of it, hence their support and involvement.
Hon. Jinapor reiterated his earlier call for the office to submit the financial and logistical needs of the region in order to enable the government through his Ministry to assist them.
Other members of the REGSEC also commended the Minister for the holistic approach in dealing with the illegal mining menace and pledged to effectively collaborate with the government to fight illegal mining and logging in the country.
