Wontumi Cautions NPP Delegates

BERNARD ANTWI Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the current Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cautioned party delegates and fanatics to avoid causing internal scuffles as the party prepares to elect its regional executives.

The NPP has scheduled May 27 to May 29, 2022, to hold its annual regional delegates congress for the election of regional executive officers, including the chairman to oversee party activities at the regional level.

Chairman Wontumi, who is seeking re-election, urged other contenders to avoid polemical campaigns to promote the hard-won integrity of the party in the Ashanti region.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who was speaking during a campaign visit to Kuntanase, a community in the Bosomtwe Constituency on Friday, May 13, 2022, holds a firm conviction against intra-party dispute.

He admonished his followers against adopting the use of invectives, denigrations and any form of contentions against any of his contenders.

He said all aspirants are presented with the opportunity to communicate their capabilities and ideas towards attaining the party’s dream of forming the next government.

That, he said, is the very reason he has rather resorted to projecting his achievements, abilities and ideas for the betterment of NPP in the region than engaging in character and personality assassination of his opponents.

He said the party, after the regional congress, will need all the aspirants to drum home its single goal of holding unto power, which should start and continue during the campaign period.

According to him, maintaining his incumbency in the upcoming congress will catapult the efforts of the Ashanti NPP into achieving victory in the 2024 general elections.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako appealed to delegates, especially those in Bosomtwe, to maintain him, considering his ability to lead the party to deliver massive results for two general election victories.

He claimed to stand tall as a tried, tested and proven leader for the NPP in Ashanti Region after exceeding expectations to deliver victories against the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“In 2014 when you presented me as the regional chairman, we were in opposition, but we won it. It wasn’t easy because the NDC claimed they would get a whopping one million votes in the region, and that was when Charlotte Osei and Amadu Sulley, and others could change ballot boxes for their favourites.

“You have trusted me, and now NPP wants to break the eight-year rule, and so I need your votes to break the eight as the regional chairman of this great party,” he stated.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to show their readiness in voting for him, Aikins Addai Poku, the Bosomtwe Constituency Chairman of NPP presented cash of GHȼ70,000 to support the campaign of Wontumi.

According him, the newly-elected constituency executives of the party are supporting the campaign team of Wontumi with GHȼ50,000 whiles the entire Bosomtwe Constituency is also supporting him with GHȼ20,000 and a ram.
