Youth Must Think Differently And Create Jobs – Labour Minister Advises

The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has encouraged young people in Ghana to work hard, think differently, and stop depending only on government for employment.

He gave this advice speaking to the Media after the commissioning of a new office complex for El-Sayus Company Limited as they marked 30 years in sanitation and cleaning services.

Hon. Pelpuo said Ghana has about 35 million people, but less than one million work in the public sector and even with that small number, the government uses almost half of its internal revenue to pay their salaries.

He explained that if every young person waits for government work, it will be impossible for the country to progress.

Instead, he urged the youth to learn from entrepreneurs like Mr. Archibald Nana Yaw Darko Boateng, the young CEO of El-Sayus.

Archibald took over the company from his father and has expanded it greatly.

Today, the company employs over 700 workers and plans to employ more than 2,000 people across the country.

The Minister said these are the kinds of young people Ghana needs people who create solutions, not just those who ask the government for help.

Hon. Pelpuo motivated the youth by reminding them that great global brands like Microsoft, Facebook and Instagram were created by young people who started small but thought big.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Operations at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Mr. Abubakar Abdul-Kudus Saana acknowledged El-Sayus Company limited for their work in the sanitation and cleaning services in Ghana which is very essential to the country clean and encouraged other sanitation groups to join the effort in ensuring clean environment.

Mr. Archibald Nana Yaw Darko Boateng, the CEO of El-sayus company limited also pledged collaboration with the government to help in ensuring clean, sustainable environment and improve health for Ghanaians.
